Welcome to my new creative writing site. You will find only original content here. I consider this to be a safe space to voice my opinions on current events, share short stories and poetry, all written by me! I plan to also post photographs here that highlight my travel experiences. This very well could be my first step to becoming a published author! Becoming an author is something I’ve mused about for years.
I retired from the Federal government in 2023. I spent 33 years serving the American citizenry, and I take great pride in the service I provided. However, during those 33 years, I spent a lot of time musing about being a writer. While pursuing my undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I considered majoring in Journalism but finally settled on English. I’ve always enjoyed writing. I possess deep familial roots in southeastern North Carolina and southwestern Virigina where my flair for storytelling was cultivated. At my core, no matter where I choose to live, I will always be a Southerner. Several of my family members reveled in great storytelling. Some just told funny stories about everyday life, while ours used their storytelling skills to teach the younger generation about history and their ancestors. Many of them farmed, and from the rich agrarian culture I grew up around I like telling stories about that way of life. I really enjoy writing short rural narratives that center around my ancestors. Many of these stories are fictious but the people in the stories actually existed. I am keenly aware of the contributions my family, and families like mine, made in building the nation we live in today. These stories are very important in keeping our historical memories intact. We, as a people and nation cannot know where we are headed without knowing where we have been. Many younger generations have no knowledge of what happened before they were born, where the food they eat comes from, or how the food they eat is grown and harvested. Many of them are ignorant of systems that have been in place in this country since its origins. This dumbing down of the citizenry is causing major issues that are manifesting in negative ways today. Many of my short stories aid to not only entertain but educate and inform like many of the famous American authors that came before me.
So that’s that my two cents. Please feel free to let me know if you like or dislike the stories being posted here in a respectful manner, of course!

James Edward Morris stands six feet, four inches tall. Women find him extremely attractive. His skin is the color of cocoa, and he is a dapper dresser. He’s known for dressing to the nines when running errands around Martinsville, a small Virginia town located in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the…

What will your life be like in three years? No one knows what the next second, minute, hour, day, or week has in store for us. We must live through those measures of time to truly find out what will happen next. Yet, we still plan, set goals, and pray for our desired manifestations to…

What is it about the game of golf? I was aware of the game at a relatively young age. My father and one of his friends, a retired Chief Petty Officer named Lawrence, started playing when I was in elementary school. Actually Lawrence, who went by the name Chief, played many times a week. He…

What is your favorite form of physical exercise? My favorite form of exercise is bike riding. I haven’t done a lot of it lately but I do enjoy it. It gives you an opportunity to get my heart rate up, go places, and to commune with nature. There is nothing better than riding on a…

For years, I dreamed of retiring! What Federal employee hasn’t? United States federal employees still have a guaranteed pension plan if they live long enough to work 30 years and reach a pre-determined age. Few industries still offer this type of benefit. Even with the Federal government gutting this benefit back in 1984, it is…

What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself? The hardest goals for me to reach are those centered on weight loss and improving my A1C. Food can be very hard to resist, especially the ones that do not boost your health!
